Under the leadership of Constantin Chiriac, President of Sibiu International Theatre Festival [FITS], General Manager of Radu Stanca National Theatre Sibiu and IATL Advisory Board Member, Romanian theatre reached new audiences across Asia through an acclaimed presence at World Expo 2025 Osaka, the event that brought together over 150 participating countries and international organisations. The presentation of ”Electra”, a performance by Mihai Măniuțiu, was praised as a highlight of the Expo’s global programme.

The event in Osaka was followed by an exceptional tour of ”Iona”, directed by IATL Member Silviu Purcărete and starring celebrated Japanese actor Kuranosuke Sasaki – a co-production between the Sibiu National Theatre and Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre – with performances in Tokyo, Kanazawa, Matsumoto, Mito, Yamaguchi, and Osaka. This collaboration of leading world-renowned artists exemplifies Chiriac’s enduring vision of theatre as a universal language of cultures.
