IATL at Sibiu International Theatre Festival 2023 – FITS
This summer, at the 30th edition of Sibiu International Theatre Festival – FITS, world-renowned symbol of excellence in the performing arts, IATL participated in a series of events:
The International Platform of Doctoral Research in the Fields of Performing Arts and Cultural Management hosted special presentations of keynote speakers:
ALICIA ADAMS, Vice President of International Programming and Dance at The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts & IATL Advisory Board Member,
TRAVIS PRESTON, Artistic Director of the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) Center for New Performance, Dean of the CalArts School of Theater & IATL Member,
VLADISLAVA FEKETE, Director of the Theatre Institute in Bratislava & IATL Executive Board Member.
Launched in 2017, the Platform is organized and chaired by Professor OCTAVIAN SAIU, IATL Founder & President.
Cultivating dialogue and academic exchange, the International Platform promotes inter-institutional collaboration and theatre education within the context of FITS. This year’s theme, The Search for Wonder and the Discovery of Theatre: Creative Research in Contemporary Performing Arts, gathered academics, professionals, researchers and students from more than 35 countries.
The IATL was invited to participate in the Sibiu Performing Arts Market, an associated structure of FITS, aimed at providing the context for the promotion of artistic projects and establishing collaborations, as well as for sharing and learning the most recent information in the performing arts field.
The four-day programme included a Keynote Lecture on The Necessity of Leadership: Why Theatre Matters, delivered by Professor OCTAVIAN SAIU.
Celebrating one year of IATL, his presentation highlighted that:
”The IATL is the only global entity that has emerged after the pandemic in the entire field of performing arts, with the declared purpose of nourishing inspiration, vision, and hope. These are the key values of leadership in a universe that merges the strength of collective spirit and the fragility of individual talent.”
