IATL Is Born
We have a dream!
IATL (International Association of Theatre Leaders) was officially launched by Octavian Saiu (president and founder) on the 3rd of July 2022 in the auspicious context of Sibiu International Theatre Festival under the headline “We have a dream!”.
The event took place at Thalia Theatre, one of the oldest performing arts venues in Central and Eastern Europe, erected in 1787. The audience consisted of diplomats, artists, curators, programmers, and scholars from all continents. After presenting the goals, the mission, and the vision of the association, Saiu introduced each member of the Advisory Board and the Executive Board, respectively.
“What the world of theatre and the theatre of the world need now is leadership – in other words, the vision, the energy, the talent, the ability, the expertise of those who can help everyone else fulfil their goals and live their dreams. In the face of so much adversity, it is only through such values that theatre can regain its strength. […]
The personalities who are now founding IATL are symbols of artistic and intellectual excellence. I thank each of them for what we can build together: a unique global platform of professional connectivity for performing arts. […]
Our first major event will be the International Workshop Series for Emerging Theatre Leaders, which will empower young leaders from various developing countries and enable them to implement their ideas locally and to develop global cultural networks.”

At the end, in the applauds of the entire audience, the Inaugural Fellow of IATL was announced: the distinguished, iconic choreographer Sasha Waltz.
