The IATL is honoured to announce a unique partnership with The Europe Theatre Prize – a trademark of excellence in the world of theatre. A major cultural programme initiated by the European Commission in 1987, The Europe Theatre Prize has been promoting interdisciplinarity, integration and cooperation between theatre and other arts, while aiming to enhance the knowledge and dissemination of theatrical values. Over the years, The Europe Theatre Prize was awarded, as a lifetime achievement, to most illustrious theatre creators such as: Ariane Mnouchkine, Peter Brook, Giorgio Strehler, Heiner Müller, Pina Bausch, Lev Dodin, Robert Lepage or Isabelle Huppert. In 1990, the great impact of the Prize and the desire to encourage trends and initiatives of European theatre led to the launch of The Europe Theatre Realities Prize presented, since then, to promising artists like Eimuntas Nekrošius, Thomas Ostermeier, Oskaras Koršunovas, Sasha Waltz, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Pippo Delbono and Milo Rau, amongst many others. A pilot project of vital significance for the culture of contemporary stage, The Europe Theatre Prize has been recognized since 2002 by the European Parliament and the Council of Europe as an Organisation of European Cultural Interest.
Together, the IATL and The Europe Theatre Prize will foster vision and strengthen cultural legacy in theatre leadership through a dynamic and inspiring partnership that honours the past while boldly stepping into the future.
