Renowned composer, Melbourne University Enterprise Professor and IATL Advisory Board Member, Sir Jonathan Mills has been designated Artistic Director of Lublin 2029 – European Capital of Culture [ECoC]. Established in 1985 by the European Union, the ECoC is one of the most influential cultural initiatives in the world, celebrating the power of the arts to strengthen identity and encourage creativity.
In this spirit, Lublin 2029, guided by the theme ”RE:UNION”, will highlight the city’s historic role as a bridge between East and West, transforming it into a dynamic centre of artistic collaboration and social imagination.
Director of the Edinburgh Culture Summit and former head of the Edinburgh International Festival, Mills has long turned artistic dialogue into a form of diplomacy – weaving theatre, music, and ideas into encounters that transcend borders. His appointment reaffirms that art remains the most eloquent language of unity, and that visionary leadership in culture means listening, curating, and inspiring at the same time. IATL is looking forward to contributing to his dynamic and diverse programmes of ”RE:UNION”.
